I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Jory Ratzlaff, the Kansas State FFA President, about the exciting activities Kansas FFA has planned for this year’s Kansas State Fair. Here’s some of the things you can expect:
The content in this blog is derived from my interview with Jory Ratzlaff- Kansas State FFA President.
One of the highlights is the Grand Drive Livestock Exhibition, where members showcase their beef, goat, sheep, and swine. This event is a major attraction and the pinnacle of many participants livestock showing careers.
In addition to the livestock exhibition, there will be numerous educational displays open to the public. These displays offer insights into various agricultural practices and commodities. One notable display is the County Commodity Booth, where chapters present crops and commodities grown in their respective counties. This booth is a fantastic way to learn about local agriculture and the hard work that goes into it.
State officers, district officers, and volunteer chapters will be actively involved throughout the fair. They will assist with setting up, weighing in livestock for shows, and managing events in the FFA division. Their dedication ensures that everything runs smoothly, and they also help with cleanup after the events.
FFA members will have several opportunities to meet and interact with state officers. You can find them wandering all around the State Fair, assisting with chapters and agriculture education experiences. They will also be present at the Grand Drive, in the Prairie Pavilion, and other displays and exhibits.
Jory expressed his excitement for the Grand Drive, describing it as the pinnacle of the showing experience for many members. It’s a chance to see the culmination of hard work and dedication throughout the year. Jory is eager to witness the members’ efforts come to fruition.
When asked about his goals for his year of service, Jory shared his vision not just as a state president, but as an FFA member. Having experienced the positive impact of FFA firsthand, Jory aims to provide value to others’ experiences during his year of service.
For Jory, FFA was a source of comfort and belonging throughout high school, guiding him towards his current career path. His goal is to pass on the lessons he’s learned to other members, helping them find their own direction and appreciation for FFA.
Jory’s dedication to making a meaningful impact on others’ lives highlights FFA’s mission and the community it fosters.
The Kansas State Fair promises to be an exciting event for FFA members and attendees alike. Whether you’re interested in livestock exhibitions, educational displays, or meeting state officers, there’s something for everyone. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the FFA community and the incredible work they do!
