The content in this blog is derived from my interview with Andy Bishop- Cattlemen's Beef Board Chairman

As we look to the future, the beef industry is poised for continued growth and success. Over the past three years, beef demand has reached record levels, with consumers willing to pay the highest retail prices in history. This trend is a testament to the efforts of the beef check-off program and the faith consumers have in beef products.

The Role of Consumer Education

Consumer education plays a vital role in sustaining and enhancing beef demand. The Beef Checkoff and the Cattlemen's Beef Board focus on several key areas to educate and engage consumers:

  1. Farm and Ranch Practices: It's essential to communicate the efforts made on farms and ranches to produce high-quality beef. Sharing stories about animal welfare and sustainability helps consumers understand the care and dedication that goes into raising beef.

  2. Nutrition: Today's consumers are highly focused on nutrition and how it impacts their health. By emphasizing the nutritional benefits of beef and making consumers aware that it is the king of proteins, the industry can influence buying decisions and encourage consumers to make beef a central part of their meals.

  3. Recipes and Preparation: With high retail prices, consumers are looking for ways to enjoy beef without breaking the bank. Providing recipes and tips for preparing various cuts of beef ensures that consumers can have a satisfying experience regardless of their budget.

The Impact of Trade on the Beef Market

Trade continues to be a significant factor in the beef market. While the Beef Checkoff dollars are not used for lobbying, the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) plays a crucial role in promoting beef internationally. By leveraging partnerships and promoting beef in over 80 countries, the USMEF ensures that U.S. beef remains competitive on the global stage. It is essential for industry organizations to work on establishing fair trade agreements to support these efforts.

Accessing Information and Resources

For both producers and consumers, several resources are available to learn more about beef. Websites like beefboard.org and drivingdemandforbeef.com offer valuable information. Additionally, the popular Beef It's What's For Dinner site provides a wealth of recipes and preparation tips, making it a go-to source for all things beef.

A Personal Touch

When asked about his favorite beef recipe, Andy Bishop, chairman on the Cattlemen's Beef Board, shared a simple yet delicious option: a ribeye steak cooked in an air fryer. Despite some friendly teasing from cattlemen friends, he enjoys this quick and easy method, proving that great beef doesn't always need a grill.
